A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE OF GOD

PSALM 36:7-9 NKJ

PSALM 36:7-9 NKJ
7 How precious is Your lovingkindness, O God!
Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of Your wings.
8 They are abundantly satisfied with the fullness of Your house,
And You give them drink from the river of Your pleasures.
9 For with You is the fountain of life;
In Your light we see light.

OBSERVATION:

David, who was a king and a prophet, had amazing insight into the goodness of God.

He never seemed to be at a loss for words in describing God and His nature. It is helpful to realize that David is speaking by inspiration of the Holy Spirit. However, David's life reflected his beliefs that God was truly good.

David starts this psalm with a discourse on wicked people but then shifts to reveal the wonderful character and nature of God.

David considered the lovingkindness of the Lord a precious thing. That is a rather unusual use of words. God's lovingkindness is precious, valuable, to be treasured. And because of that amazing treasure, we can put our trust in God and his protection. It's much easier to trust one who is truly good. And no one out goods God.

God abundantly satisfies His people from His house, where there is no lack or shortage. And we can drink from the rivers of His pleasure. What creative usage of words. What a wonderful picture David paints. But keep in mind that when describing God, there is no hype. He is exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think.

For with God is the fountain of life. Men have searched for the fountain of youth and have, and never will, find it. But with our God is a fountain that can satisfy the thirst of mankind. It's a spiritual fountain that never runs dry.

And in His light, we see light. The more we walk with God, the more we see. And yet the more we realize how little we know. His light will continue to reveal to us more light throughout the ages to come.

What a wonderful, awe-inspiring God we serve.

PRAYER:

Thank you, Father, for Your precious lovingkindness and goodness to us. For Your abundant supply and the life that satisfies. It's easy to trust in You.
