COMPLETE IN HIM

COLOSSIANS 2:6-10 NKJ

COLOSSIANS 2:6-10 NKJ
6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, 7 rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.
8 Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. 9 For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; 10 and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.

When I was a freshman in college Billy Joel sang one of his most famous songs. A line in that song was, I love you just the way you are. The gist of the song is that the person did not need to change.

Nice song. But I am glad that God loved us as we were, but then He changed us.

Paul is talking about that change here in the second chapter of Colossians. His encouragement to the church was to walk in the changes that were theirs in Christ.

You have received Christ, so now walk in that union with Him. Make your new life in Him the center of your new identity. It is a walk of faith, but you can grow in faith as you are giving thanks to God.

Paul then encourages the church to veer away from anything that diminishes who they were in Christ. Stay with who you are in Him; that's your highest and best.

Paul then shares a truth that is so simple yet so profound. He tells the church at Colosse that they are complete in Him, and He is the head over all rule and authority.

What good news for our often sagging self-esteem. We are complete in Christ. We don't need something or someone to make us complete.

APPLICATION:

I am sure we have not grasped all that being complete in Him entails. It is a spiritual truth, and it has some serious depth to it. But we can simply accept it by faith.

The good news here is that we don't need something else in Christ. We have been given a wonderful inheritance in Him. What we are doing now is discovering all that He has done for us and made available to us.

So, whether you were saved last week or 70 years ago, you are complete in Christ. Choose to believe that and speak that about yourself. And don't forget to give thanks for the changes He worked in you.

PRAYER:

Dear Father, thank You that I am in union with Christ, and I am complete in Him. Thank You. There are no second-class believers in Him.
