GOD'S KNOWLEDGE OF MAN

PSALM 139:1-6

PSALM 139:1-6 NKJ
1 O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
2 You know my sitting down and my rising up;
You understand my thought afar off.
3 You comprehend my path and my lying down,
And are acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.
5 You have hedged me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is high, I cannot attain it.

OBSERVATION:

This psalm of David has the appearance of being written by a man who had a revelation of the awesomeness of God.

David seems overwhelmed by God's knowledge and power. Make sure you read the entire psalm. This psalm gives us a glimpse into just how big our God is.

God knows our sitting and rising and our every move. He knows our thoughts, even our most random ones.

God knows where we are going and when we stop going to lie down and rest. God knows all our ways, not just our religious ways. Nothing we do or don't do surprises Him.

God knows our words. Before we ever speak them, He knows all our words.

God has enclosed us all around and put His hand on us for good.

This knowledge is literally mind-blowing. Way above our pay grade. Way above our ability to comprehend. This kind of knowledge is not obtainable for us.

APPLICATION:

The best way I can think of to apply these verses to our lives is to take a few moments and meditate on them.

To meditate means to fill our mind, not empty it. At least, that is the example we have of biblical meditation.

So we can pause and think deeply about how powerful and big our God is. Not only does He have this intimate knowledge of us personally, He has this depth of knowledge for all people on the earth.

As we meditate on these scriptures, we can gain glimpses into just how big, and all-knowing our Heavenly Father is. And knowing that He knows about us very personally is a faith booster.

PRAYER:

Father, forgive me for treating You as if You were regular and common. You are anything but. Thank You for taking knowledge of me.
