THE SAFE PLACE

PSALM 91:1-2 NKJV

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress;

My God, in Him I will trust."

This is another on the short list of well-known Psalms. Outside of Psalm 23, the Lord is my Shepherd, this Psalm 91 may be the second most quoted. Because this is the Divine protection, Psalm.

This Psalm speaks of protection from terror, destruction, and disease.

This Psalm speaks of angelic protection and deliverance from trouble. With so many negatives in this dark world, this is a great Psalm to memorize.

No kidding about the memorization part. When we memorize, we help our minds and feed our spirits. And we do something else. We align our words with what God says.

In our two verses for today, we see the benefit of walking close to the Lord. Staying close to Him is a key reason these verses apply.

And there is a simple but profound truth in verse two. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge, fortress, my God, and the One that I trust. Notice what the psalmist is saying about the Lord. He is proclaiming who God is to Him. This is a big part of our walk with the Lord.

This principle of saying who the Lord is a vital part of our salvation. Romans 10:9 says if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

We know confessing Jesus as our Lord is important, but we do not stop there. We can confess Him as our Shepherd, Healer, peace, and strength. And all of those are scriptural.

We can also say, confess, that God is our refuge, fortress, and the One that we trust. Our saying these truths does not obligate or force God to do anything. As if we could ever force God. No, what our saying does is make these biblical truths more real in our lives.

APPLICATION:

What do you say about the Lord, your Heavenly Father and the Holy Spirit? If there is anything we need to boast about, it's who our God is to us. That's a safe place. That's the best place.

PRAYER:

Lord You are bigger than anything else in my life. You are my Savior, Healer, peace and strength. You are the One that I trust!
