WHO DO YOU SAY HE IS?

MATTHEW 16:13-17

MATTHEW 16:13-17 NKJ
13 When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”
14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.

Jesus asked His disciples two questions.  The first was regarding what other people said about Jesus.  And He received some interesting answers, all wrong but interesting.  Some thought He was one of the Old Testament prophets raised from the dead, and some thought he was John the Baptist.  Pretty crazy that some people thought He was a dead guy raised to life.  Of course, they would soon have the opportunity to believe just that.

Jesus then asked the most important question!  "But who do you say I am?"  Peter had the right answer:  the Christ, the Son of the living God."  Jesus told Peter he was truly blessed that God had revealed this to him.  Jesus would go on to tell Peter that this revelation of who Jesus is would be the rock on which the church would be established.

APPLICATION

If we asked people today who Jesus is, we would get some interesting answers.  Many wrong answers but interesting.  Some say a great teacher, moral example, and good man.  Some deny His very existence, and some truly have no idea.  But if we really look into His words and teachings, we have to assume he was either crazy or exactly who He said. There really is no middle ground,

But by far the most important question is personal.  But who do you say that He is?

The most important thing you can say about Jesus is that He is the Son of the Living God and your Lord and Savior.  That's a heaven or hell answer, to confess Him as Lord is the Rock upon which we base our salvation.

But we don't have to stop there.  We can also say He is my Shepherd, Healer, Friend, High Priest.  The One who loved me and gave Himself for me.  My example, my hero.  And what we say about Jesus opens the door to Him actively being that in our lives today.  This is a very important question.  But who do you say that He is?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are my King and Master.  My Healer and Friend.  You are the greatest person in my life.  It's an honor to serve You.
