WHO IS CHOSEN? YOU IS CHOSEN

1 PETER 2:9

1 PETER 2:9 NKJ
9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;

This is a verse I have often referred to in my messages. You may have heard someone say that Jews are God's chosen people. That is correct to a point. God does have a plan for His people, the Jews, and their role in the last days' events will be big.

But you are a chosen generation. Peter is not only writing to the Jewish believers. He is writing to every believer. Those who have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ (see 1 Peter 1:2).

When you made Jesus your Lord, you were born again of incorruptible seed (see yesterday). And now the Holy Spirit, through Peter, is telling you who you are in God's eyes.

A royal priesthood. No longer dependent on a man to go to God on your behalf. Jesus did that for you. Now you can come boldly to the throne of grace by yourself. And you are royal. Again, through Jesus, but I sure like the sound of being royalty.

A holy nation. Holy means set apart for God's purpose.

His own special people. We are His own special people. It's easy to see why we are not missing out on any of the benefits of being God's chosen. We are more than just God's chosen. We are royal and special. And we are chosen for a purpose. So that we may proclaim, make visible the praises of God. He called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.

As a side note, since He called us out of darkness, we do not have to accept anything that darkness brings our way. No sin, sickness, or sadness. We are children of light and only accept what the light has to offer. Depression and despair are not products of the light and are not designated for God's chosen.

APPLICATION:

Remember, this was written to believers facing persecution. This verse is a big boost to those dealing in darkness. We can remind ourselves that as God's chosen, whatever problems come our way are temporary. We are God's chosen people, and we will praise the One who called us out and called us up. We can live as God's chosen. That's me. That's you. That's good news.

PRAYER:

Thank You, Father. Because of Jesus, I am Your chosen. I am part of a set-apart nation. I am Your special royal priest, and I am out of darkness and into your marvelous light.
