THREE VALUABLE THINGS GOD'S WORD WILL DO FOR YOU

Proverbs 6:20-23 nkj
20 My son, keep your father's command,
And do not forsake the law of your mother.
21 Bind them continually upon your heart;
Tie them around your neck.
22 When you roam, they will lead you;
When you sleep, they will keep you;
And when you awake, they will speak with you.
23 For the commandment is a lamp,
And the law a light;
Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

Solomon, who wrote the proverbs, is giving wisdom to his son. He is encouraging the young man to keep the family commands and teachings. And don't reject it. We can take these words and apply them to God talking to His family. That would be those of us who are in Christ. We are part of God's household. God's commands and teachings are even more sure and valuable than the counsel any earthly parents could offer. So if anyone needs to keep His commands and not reject His teachings, it would be us.

Bind God's Word on your heart and tie it around your neck. Although I do not recommend wearing a Bible around your neck, I can suggest reading and thinking about God's Word on a regular basis. Solomon is saying to keep the commands and teachings close.

Close because when you walk, they will guide you. What an understatement. God's Word will guide you. God's Word can guide you in how to treat people. How to respond to God. What to do when you feel afraid. And how to handle the negatives that come your way. God's Word can guide you into understanding God's plan for your life, and the list just goes on.

Keep God's Word because it will watch over you. I can't say I understand all this entails but I can say from personal experience that reading God's Word before bedtime is a great way to put your mind at ease. And if you are keeping God's commands and teachings, there is going to be a greater sense of peace in your life. Peace in your heart will make a difference when you lie down to sleep. I am sure there is more here. When it comes to God's words, they are alive and powerful, so there is always more to see and know.

I do know that putting God's Word in your heart and life will make a difference when you wake up. Many times, first thing in the morning, a scripture will come to me, and often it answers a question I have been asking or provides encouragement for my day. There is no downside to God's Word.

Verse twenty-three sums up the value of keeping God's commands and teachings. They are a lamp. Lamps are used to light the way a person would walk. They are a light. Light is valuable for protection and clarity. When there is light, we don't bump into things, and we are aware of things that may have surprised us in the dark. They provide corrective discipline. Although that does not sound fun, it is so valuable. When we are walking on the wrong path or doing something that is harming us and/or others, we need to receive correction. God will correct those He loves. Not with sickness and disease but with His commands and teachings. God corrects us by His Spirit with His Word. And His correction is life, not harm.

God is never "just sayin." His words, commands, and teachings are more valuable than money. God ‘s words are spiritual life.

PRAYER

Thank You, Father, for Your words. What You command and teach is extremely valuable to me!
