STAYING ON TRACK SPIRITUALLY

ROMANS 1:21

ROMANS 1:21 NKJ
21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

The Book of Romans is considered by many to be Paul's most important letter to the church.  The doctrinal content in this book is immense, and some of my very favorite passages are in Romans.

The verse we have for today is a twist on a situation gone bad.  People who knew of the existence of God chose not to glorify Him as God or be thankful to Him.  As a result of their choice, their thoughts became futile.  The word futile here means to become destitute of real wisdom, foolish, to get off the right path.  And their hearts became darkened or deprived of light.  So, if we flip this verse around, we can see some very positive outcomes.

If we will glorify and worship God as He really is the Creator of heaven and earth, the living God.  And if we will give Him thanks, we set up our thoughts to be filled with wisdom, and our heart stays in the light.

APPLICATION

It is easy to go through a day and not even acknowledge God.  But that path does not lead to a good outcome.  It is the beginning of our thoughts moving away from God, and we wind up living as someone without Him in our lives.  I've seen it happen too many times.  People typically don't wake up one day and decide to live without God.  It's a slower process.  But by worshipping and glorifying Him daily, by being thankful daily, we can keep God in our thoughts and His light in our hearts.  And we can move forward with Him, not backward.

PRAYER

Dear Heavenly Father,

I worship and acknowledge You as the Living God, Creator of heaven and earth.  You alone are worthy of worship, praise, honor, and all my strength.  Thank You for Your wisdom, light, and peace in my heart that affects all areas of my life.  It's an honor to walk and live with You.  Thank You for helping me stay on track.
