Bible 365 Devotional

WE HAVE A KING; WE ARE IN HIS KINGDOM

Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”

John 18:36-37 36 NKJ Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” 37 Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?”

Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause, I was born, and for this cause, I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.”

Jesus answered Pilate about His Kingdom. He told Pilate if He, Jesus, was an earthly king, there would be a fight, and He never would have been delivered to the Jews.

When earlier in the evening, the Jews came to arrest Jesus, He commanded Peter to put away his sword. Jesus knew this was not an earthly fight. He knew He had come to establish the Kingdom of God on the earth, and He was its king.

APPLICATION

The apostle Paul would write to the church at Ephesus and let them know that they were now citizens of God's Kingdom. And the King of this unseen but very real Kingdom is Jesus. We know to accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, but we are not out of place acknowledging Him as our King. And because His Kingdom is more powerful and more eternal, it's the first place of our allegiance. So, the flag that should fly highest in our lives is not Old Glory; it's the flag of His glory. He is our King.

PRAYER

Jesus, I acknowledge You as my King and the head of the kingdom I belong to forever. Help me to live a life that glorifies and brings honor to You, my King.
