THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM

ROMANS 4:19-20

ROMANS 4:19-20 NKJ
19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,

This passage is one of the clearest examples of faith in the scriptures. Abraham's faith is the subject of this entire chapter four. But it's more than a historical account. Verse twelve of chapter four indicates we are to "walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had." Since we are to take similar steps of faith, it is good for us to know what those steps of faith look like.

Abraham did not consider his body and its inability to function correctly (I'll let you figure that one out). Or the fact that his wife Sarah had never been able to conceive. He was not in denial. He was just more connected to God's promise that they were going to have a baby.

And he did not waver, or a better term would be disconnect from God's promise. Instead, his faith was strengthened as he gave glory, praise to God.

APPLICATION

For us to walk in the steps of faith as Abraham, here are the steps laid out:

Have a promise from God. What is His promise in the scriptures that have sparked in your heart?

Consider that promise above your feeling or how things look, or your history.

When you think about it, give praise to God for His promise before you see an answer.

I realize we could spend a great deal of time on the above three steps. But at least here is a blueprint to go by. You can use these three steps/principles as a checklist to reveal if you are walking in Abraham's kind of faith. Promise, focus, praise. Abraham walked in this faith and saw a mighty miracle. Thank God the God of Abraham and the faith of Abraham is still the same today.
